Lee was an expert cabinet maker and mechanic. He worked for many years for the Russell Brown company in Houston. The company was the builder of the school in Bellville, and it was this project that took him to Bellville in about 1918. Around 1920 he began working for the Sinclair Refining company and continued with them until his retirement in about 1936.
