  1. 1.  Dallas Ann ISBELL was born on 12 Dec 1944 in Corpus Christi, Nueces, Texas, USA (daughter of James Ethmur ISBELL and Dolce Lee HORNBERGER); died on 2 Jan 2022 in Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona, USA; was buried on 14 Jan 2022 in City of Mesa Cemetery, Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona, USA.

    Notes:

Ann was born in Corpus Christi, TX on December 12,1944 to James Ethmur Isbell and Dolce Lee Hornberger. She was known to family and friends by either name, Dallas or Ann.

At around age three Dolce left Dallas and James. Years later Dallas was able to find her mother had remarried and had a son and daughter, Ann’s half-siblings.

With her father, Dallas moved several times in her childhood where he managed motels in the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Arizona and Nevada where she graduated with the class of 1962 at Las Vegas High School.

While in Las Vegas, during high school, her father managed the Flamingo Hotel and Dallas was able to go to dinners with her father where she met many celebrities. A friend, Tina, said that during the hot summer months Dallas's father would sneak the girls into the pool at the Hotel.

Ann graduated from Lamson Junior College with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration July 31,1992. Being a single parent for approximately ten years, she provided for her family as a bookkeeper.

Ann was heavily into her own family history over the years. She was a Member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was tied into the von Rosenberg family of TX who came from Prussia (pre-Germany) to help settle Texas. Ann was so excited she got to go on a two-week trip with Art Green and several other cousins to tour Europe and visit the von Rosenberg estates and castles.

Dallas was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during high school. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ever since. She served two Church Service Missions as a Family Search Missionary.

Ann's favorite calling was with the Scouts helping numerous young men achieve their Eagle Rank. She took the time with each individual to make sure everything was completed before age 18. She was very fond of the young men and claimed they were her extended family of boys.

  1. 2.  James Ethmur ISBELL was born on 7 Apr 1905 in Coy, McDonald, Missouri, USA (son of Luther Lionel ISBELL and Anna Scott HOPKINS); died in Jun 1981.

    Notes:

“Jim was raised by his mother and stepfather in a small town in Missouri. He attended school until the eighth grade and helped on the farm. His first job was the Connor Hotel in Joplin, not from where he grew up. In the late 1920’s he was working in Chicago, Illinois and was there during the time of the St. Valentine’s Day massacre. He made a career of hotel work and in 1947 went with this daughter to Tulsa to be close to his ailing father. During his stay in Tulsa, Oklahoma he worked at the Mayo Hotel and was a member and moved back to Arizona where he spent several years at the Westward Ho in Phoenix. Hotel work was seasonal in Phoenix because of the hot weather so Jim would work in Las Vegas, Nevada during the summer returning to Phoenix when the season started again. He moved permanently to Las Vegas in 1957 to work at the Flamingo Hotel. He eventually became assistant manager of the hotel and remained there while the hotel was owned by Bugsy Segal of mafia fame. Upon the sale of the hotel, several of his associates and he moved to the Frontier Hotel where he worked until his retirement in 1971. Jim was an avid horse lover and loved horse racing. He also loved music and was an avid reader. His favorite books were westerns, especially those written by Louis L’Amour. He liked to cook, especially fried chicken, for his friends and family.”

James married Dolce Lee HORNBERGER on 11 Nov 1943 in Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona, USA, and was divorced in 1948 in Dade County, Florida, USA. Dolce (daughter of William Christian HORNBERGER, Jr. and Bertha Malina YOUNG) was born on 13 May 1917 in Austin, Travis, Texas, USA; died on 6 Feb 1962 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA; was buried in Austin Memorial Park, Austin, Travis, Texas, USA. 2. 3.  Dolce Lee HORNBERGER was born on 13 May 1917 in Austin, Travis, Texas, USA (daughter of William Christian HORNBERGER, Jr. and Bertha Malina YOUNG); died on 6 Feb 1962 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA; was buried in Austin Memorial Park, Austin, Travis, Texas, USA.

    Notes:

“Dolce didn’t like her name and preferred to go by Ann. Upon the death of her mother who died of appendicitis when Dolce was about two years old, her father somewhat distanced himself from the family, leaving the care of his two children to his mother, Anna von Rosenberg Hornberger until “Mama Berger” died when Dolce was a young teen. At that time she was cared for by various family members. She attended Pease School in Austin, and the Ursula Academy in San Antonio. She received a degree from Seton Hospital in Austin. Not long after graduating she was briefly married. She resided in Arizona for a short time, but returned to Texas in 1943. After the birth of her first child, the family lived briefly in Austin then moved to Miami, Florida, where they started a business. They were there about two years when she felt she needed to disassociate herself from all family members, including her two year old child. She kept in touch with her baby’s father for a few months before leaving Florida, telling no one her whereabouts. In the early 1950’s she married Don Peterson and had two children and eventually left them with their father as well. It wasn’t until the end of 1961 that she decided to make contact with the family in Texas by visiting an aunt in Austin. She asked the aunt to keep her visit confidential. Soon after returning to California, she died. At the time of her death she was working as a nurse at Los Angeles County Hospital in California. Her family then learned that she had worked in various hospitals in different states, which included volunteer work in Point Barrow, Alaska during an epidemic that took the lives of many sled dogs. She attended St. Andrew’s Catholic Church.”
