Notes |
- “When Bob was 18 months old the family moved to San Antonio, Texas only to relocate a short time later to Arizona outside Tucson where they homesteaded for five-year requirement period but returned again to Kerrville because of the elder Lewis’s health. In 1943 his immediate family moved to Austin where Bob graduated from Austin High School in 1948. In 1948, his family moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where he attended New Mexico State University. After graduation with a degree in business, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and was assigned to Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. While looking up an old friend by the name of Joe von Rosenberg who lived just two blocks from where Bob once resided, he met his future wife. Shortly after they married, he left the service. He was recalled to active duty in 1962 and was assigned to Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. Subsequent assignments included Kadena Air Force Base in Okonawa, Edwards Air Force Base and Norton Air Force Base, both in California, Ramstein Air Base in Germany and Warner Robbins in Georgia. Bob retired in 1980 after serving for 20 years. At that time Ann and Bob moved back to Austin to be close to his recently widowed mother. After retiring from the military Bob went to work for the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation as a Management Audit Director. He retired a second time in 1991. Since retirement he does a considerable amount of volunteer work for his church where he also serves on the finance committee. He loves watching television sports, traveling and visiting and children and grandchildren.”
