- Paul spent most of his life in Austin before moving to Lubbock County in 1913. He was a stockman and farmer but was also engaged in the mercantile business. He served as a county commission in both Travis and Lubbock counties, holding the latter position at the time the Lubbock County courthouse was built. Paul was an elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in both Austin and Lubbock.
Paul’s tombstone gives his year of birth as 1852; however, his obituary and death record give 1854. The latter is more consistent with various censuses.
