- A.L. spent his school years in La Grange, Texas. He graduated in 1942. He attended Texas A&M for one year before entering the Army where he served in the Signal Corps until the end of World War II. Afterwards, he returned to Texas A&M and graduated in 1949. After marrying and completing a year of graduate school, A.L. began working in a Houston public accounting firm. The big city was not for him and the family, so they returned to La Grange where he worked at the family dairy and for Darter-Looney Co. for two years. In 1956, he went to work as an accountant in the Comptroller’s office at Texas A&M working as an accountant in the Comptroller's office. Nine years later he accepted the job as director of finance at San Antonio College. Two years later A.L. went to the University of Texas at Arlington as business manager until he passed away suddenly from a heart attack. He was an avid golfer and sports fan.
