  Hermann’s godparents were Heinrich Eckermann, August Eckermann, Fr. Minna Eckermann, and Charlotte Mieth. Herman was raised on the farm. As he got older, he and his brother worked as painters and wallpaper hangers. After he married Augusta, they moved to a farm near New Ulm. They moved into town in 1923 to operate a cafe. They ran the cafe until their retirement in 1960.
