- Mildred attended both private and public schools in Laredo. She received a BA degree in Library Science from Texas State College for Women in 1941. After graduating, she was a librarian for the Texas High School in El Paso, Texas. After her marriage to Roger, they moved to Michigan where Roger studied at Michigan State College, and she worked in the library. She later as librarian at the College of William and Mary and Tusculum College. At the final move to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Mildred was responsible for the establisment of mental retardation facilties, which included a school and a workshop. A group home for the mentally retarded was built and named “The Mildred Miller Group Home.” Mildred passed away from cancer.
