    • Morris was born and raised in New Ulm, attending high school there. Afterwards, he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He played amateur baseball in New Ulm. His exploits on the field earned him membership in the South Texas Baseball Hall of Fame. Another interest was music, which he was able to dabble in as a member of a popular local band named the High Notes. As for occupation, Morris worked as a typesetter for the New Ulm Enterprise and Bellville Times newspapers. He also operated a small phone company in New Ulm.
